A Kindred Spirit

Spent a few days last week in Avonlea.  Read the book.  Watched the movie.  Mourned the trip to Prince Edward Island that I never took.

14. Watch Ann of Green Gables
15. Read the book

A few of my favoritest quotes from the book:

Marilla to Matthew:  Anyhow,we've decided on the experiment and goodness only knows what will come of it.

Anne to Mrs. Barry:  I am well in body although considerably rumpled up in spirit.

Rachel Lynde (as quoted by Anne to Marilla):  Sound doctrine in the man and good housekeeping in the woman make an ideal combination for a minister's family.

Anne to Marilla:  It's always wrong to do anything you can't tell the minister's wife.  It's as good as an extra conscience to have a minister's wife for your friend.

Anne to Marilla:  I know I talk too much, but I am really trying to overcome it, and although I say far too much, yet if you only knew how many things I want to say and don't, you'd give me some credit for it.

When the World Freezes Over

...Go Ice Fishing.  It's been almost 5 years since I educated you on  ice fishing.  Which means it has been almost 5 years since I went ice fishing.  Two things I neglected to tell you to take with you in my original account:
1.  Someone who loves you enough to bait your hook.  Not that you don't know how to bait your own hook, or are grossed out by fish bait.  Just because your hands are frozen and do not function with wiggly things attached to sharp things.  Bonus if the willing baiter is as good looking as the STP.
2.  Your camera.  Because before your hands become totally non functioning you will see things you want to remember and show your friends who do not have a big frozen lake nearby.
Like a snow devil moving across the far side of your frozen lake.
And your first ice fish you ever caught.  Ever.
And storms rolling in.
A few last notes concerning ice fishing:
1.  Ice fishing is way more fun if you actually catch fish.
2.  Wind is more entertaining when it is creating snow devils on the far side of the lake than when it is relentlessly whipping snow down your neck.
3.  Once every five years is about the right number of times to ice fish.

On a Roll

In the last 24 hours I was the big winner at New Year's Eve Bunko, took down the Christmas tree, and painted the kitchen.   In addition, the sunset looked like this tonight from my living room.
All in all, a very good first day of 2014.

In the Can

Labored over the kitchen paint color.  Made a decision.  Bought the paint.
Two years ago.
So when I popped open the can today I was a little surprised by the color I had chosen.
Honey whip.
Not sure it is the color I would have chosen today.
But by 4 pm it was out of the can and on the kitchen walls.
4.  Paint the kitchen.
Can I just say how good that feels to cross that off the list.
